John's early career was in marketing and strategic management in the commercial market research and business service industries.

For nearly twenty years he has worked in the charity world, for 12 years as Deputy Director of Oxfam GB, and in consultancy, advisory and governance roles. He is inspired to work for the benefit of the social justice causes for which he has passion. His current roles include consultancy for charities, companies and government bodies; Trustee, Chair and Volunteer at BUILD; Director at the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund; and Chair of the Board at the International Broadcasting Trust.

His previous roles also include Director at EIRIS and Chair at the Fairtrade Foundation.
