Scotia Works, Sheffield

Located in central Sheffield in a beautifully refurbished 19th century property, Scotia Works is close to the railway station, bus station, universities and the city centre and offers organisations a safe, modern and secure workspace.

Originally a cutlery works housing individual craftsmen, the building fell into disrepair until the local authority regeneration project commenced renovation work during the 1990’s. The adjoining Leadmill music and arts venue was renovated during the same project but the Scotia Works element stalled due to lack of funds at which point Ethical Property purchased the building.

Current tenants include organisations working with refugees, as well as mediation and community engagement charities. The building itself is light and airy while retaining much of the old materials and feel of its industrial past.  As well as a number of communal meeting rooms and shared kitchen facilities the unique central atrium provides a valuable additional space for tenants and visitors to meet, socialise and share ideas.

SAYiT is an independent Sheffield based charity that provides a range of health projects in partnership with Young People. We operate the LGBT Youth Service and run a support group for young people affected by HIV in South Yorkshire. In addition to direct support services we also run ‘Side by Side‘, a Gay/Straight alliance project, training young people to be peer educators and breakdown discrimination through the use of participatory drama and creative work.

Being based in Scotia Works gives our charity a central location which enables our young people to access the services that we provide. Scotia Works has a family feel to it and our young people feel comfortable using the centre.
