The Oxford Action
Centre
16B
Cherwell Street, Oxford, OX4 The Oxford
Action Centre is designed to house small organisations working on
very limited funding. Currently these include Corporate Watch, the
Climate Outreach and Information Network (COIN), a group promoting
slam poetry and two designers working in the not-for-profit and
social change sectors.
Before the Ethical Property Company came on the
scene, the building was discovered by George Marshall who was at
the time working for Undercurrents, the alternative media organisation.
Corporate Watch later moved in, but difficulties with the landlord
and the poor state of the property made it difficult for these groups
to continue in the premises.
We bought and refurbished the building in
September 1999, introducing disabled access, a communal ADSL line
and environmental features such as a sun pipe and recycled newspaper
insulation.
