Investing in Social Change
The Ethical Property Company is a unique initiative in ethical investment.
We buy properties and develop them as centres that bring charities, co-operatives,
community and campaign groups together under one roof where they can share
skills and ideas. Groups in our centres benefit from reasonable rents,
flexible tenancy terms and office space and facilities designed to meet
their needs.
Anyone can buy shares in the company. We currently have
over 1300 shareholders, some investing as little as £300. Our shareholders
help to maintain our 14 centres and 130 tenant organisations across the
country.
Over the last five years the Company has paid its shareholders an annual
dividend of 3 pence per share and the share price has increased from 1.20p
in December 2005 to our proposed 3.25p. Shareholders can sell their shares
through a matched bargain market operated by Brewin Dolphin Securities.
Our third share issue, in 2006, reached full subscription
and raised over £3.6M. If you would like to register for information
on buying shares now on the matched bargain market, you can visit the
Buying Shares page or call Brewin Dolphin
on 0845 458 9526.
Broadcaster and environmental campaigner George Monbiot said he bought
shares in the company 'because I've seen at first hand what a massive
difference it has made for campaign groups in Britain. Most "ethical
investments" work on the principal of negative ethics: the best they
can offer is that you are not investing in the most obviously dodgy companies.
This is one of the few which allows you actively to support the causes
you believe in.
