Celebrating 10 years in Thorn House
The Ethical Property Company's Scottish Centre, Thorn House in Edinburgh, housed on the Amber Mile, is celebrating 10 years of being home to a wonderful collection of social enterprises and some of Scotland’s leading charities.
After a long search to find just the right location, we purchased the top two floors of Thorn House in February 2007. Over the following months a careful renovation took place to turn this former Jenners Department Store building into a space fit for tenants such as Global Justice Now, Friends of the Earth Scotland and the award winning Melting Pot.
“Thorn House was the first multi-tenant, environmentally conscious building in Edinburgh for third sector organisations… Ten years later we still appreciate working from a central, modern and flexible office which has been a huge benefit to us as our organisation has changed in size over the years.” – Friends of the Earth Scotland
With rents ever rising within Edinburgh, finding a location can prove very difficult for most charities and social enterprises. The Ethical Property Company ensure that not only are rents affordable, but we encourage organisations that are working alongside each other to build community focused working practices and collaborations. We also offer additional support to all our tenants with flexibility to grow and also downsize as needed.
To celebrate 10 years in Thorn House, we threw a birthday party for all tenants and staff which included a delicious vegetarian buffet kindly provided by our tenants The Melting Pot, locally sourced cupcakes, bubbly and even musical ping-pong!
Susan Ralphs, Managing Director of The Ethical Property Company, attended the event: “It was great to be able to go to the Thorn House 10th birthday party. There was a real buzz at the event; I loved both hearing how happy the tenants were with the building, but also to having the opportunity to talk to so many inspiring people.”
Happy birthday Thorn House, here’s to 10 more years!
